Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some things you may want to know about personal loans at HOPE.

How do I apply for a loan?

You can apply for any loan at a branch.  HOPE members can apply for most loans using our HOPE digital banking service. You can also give us a call to ask any questions and find out what steps to take next.

What type of information do you collect when I apply for a loan?

When applying for a loan, you will generally need:

  • Identification, like a driver’s license or passport
  • Your social security or tax identification number
  • Proof of income, like a pay stub

Depending on the type of loan, we may need additional information about your financial situation or about the type of loan (information about the car for a vehicle loan, or about the property you own for a home equity loan).

If it sounds complicated, don’t be overwhelmed. The team at Hope Credit Union helps members
just like you with applications every day. We’re ready to assist with your application so we can find the right financial solution for you.

Do I need a co-applicant or cosigner?

A co-applicant or cosigner can strengthen your application but is not required to apply. A co-applicant or co-borrower has equal ownership in the proceeds of the loan and responsibilities for repaying the loan. A cosigner is a guarantor for the loan; they have no rights to the loan funds, but they’re responsible for any late or missing payments on the loan.

If you’ve been declined for a loan or need a larger loan amount, a co-applicant or cosigner can help you qualify for more money or a better rate. Contact us to learn more about co-applicants and cosigners and if adding one to your loan application is the right choice for you.

How soon will I receive a decision after submitting my loan application?

Response times vary based on the type of loan for which you are applying and whether you are able to provide all the required information when it is needed.

Discuss decision timelines with our staff to get an accurate picture of what to expect in your case.

I have a bad, limited, or no credit history. Can I still get a loan?

At Hope Credit Union, we believe in equal access to economic opportunities, and we seek to provide financial assistance whenever possible to those who are just starting out or rebuilding. We are able to look at alternate financial history information and are often more flexible than other institutions.

Contact us to discuss your specific financial situation and see how we can help.

How do I make a loan payment

Paying your loan is easy and convenient. You can pay online using our free digital banking service, in a branch, or by mail.

²“APR” is Annual Percentage Rate. Advertised “as low as” annual percentage rates (APR) assume excellent borrower credit history. Your actual APR may differ and will be based upon several factors, including credit history, model year, term, and loan amount. A loan on a new conventional vehicle (up to 2 years old) with the lowest advertised interest rate of 7.571% APR2 for $25,000.00 over 60 months would have a monthly payment of $459.57. Additional rates and terms are available. Advertised rates are effective 7/1/25 and subject to change.
