Hope Credit Union (HOPE) is working with residents of Utica and Edwards, Mississippi, to ensure that these Hinds County towns continue to have access to affordable, responsible financial products and related services in the long term. A broad coalition of elected officials, community leaders, businesses, and concerned individuals have engaged the credit union to preserve local banking services in response to the closing of the towns’ only banks.

BancorpSouth closed its doors at the end of August, 2012. Since that time, HOPE has worked with area residents to address concerns about the impact of the bank closings on the local economy. Many were concerned that the lack of access to financial services would have a disproportionate impact on elderly residents, and that payday lenders, check cashing operators and other high-cost providers might seek to fill the void.
HOPE has opened a new full-service branch at 106 East Main. It is fully operational and currently serving members. Credit union staff is reaching out to area organizations and participating in community events to learn more about the area and tailor its services to the needs of local families and businesses.
HOPE's ATM at the Utica branch is available 24 hours a day and free to HOPE members.
HOPE has seen great support from the local organizing committee and community leaders. Residents in the Edwards market continue to generate support for a branch and build a member base and local volunteers to promote the credit union.
